WHOIS statuses

When having trouble with transferring the domain-name, our first advise if to check the status in the whois. This might give an indication why the registry is rejecting the transfer.

In the whois you will find the name of the current registrar, but also the sentence "Domain Status"

e.g.

Domain Name: OPENPROVIDER.COM
Registrar: Hosting Concepts B.V. d/b/a Openprovider
Creation Date: 2000-02-04
Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited

In the table below you can find the most common statuses, what it means and what you can do to solve the transfer issue.

Status Code What does it mean? Should you do something?
OK This is the standard status for a domain, meaning it has no pending operations or prohibitions.

No, if the current status is "OK", you can start a transfer.

In case the domain is already at Openprovider and you want to prevent outgoing transfers, you can enable the transferlock to get the status "clientTransferProhibited"

pendingTransfer This status code indicates that a request to transfer your domain to a new registrar has been received and is being processed. If you did not request to transfer your domain, you should contact your registrar immediately to request that they deny the transfer request on your behalf.
clientTransferProhibited This status code tells that your domain is locked and the registry will reject requests to transfer the domain from your current registrar to another.

This status indicates that it is not possible to transfer the domain name, which will help prevent unauthorized transfers.

If you do want to transfer your domain, you must first contact your registrar and request that they remove this status code.

In Openprovider, you can do this yourself via the detail-page of the domain.
